Ethernet Over Copper

Ethernet over Copper (EoC) is the newest type of data packet transmission technology available. Traditional copper wires, known as Plain Ordinary Telephone Service (POTS) lines, are used to transmit data from the customer’s location to the ISP. Metro Ethernet over Copper fills the gap between traditional telecom circuits (T1/ DS3) and fiber based products.

Although EOC uses the same copper lines as DSL, EOC and DSL they are NOT the same. EOC is always symmetrical, meaning your business gets the same upload and download speeds, whereas most DSL (and Cable) is asymmetrical, with more download than upload speeds.

EOC is provided via on site Customer Premise Equipment (CPE) that is used to bond 4 to 8 pairs of POTS lines to supply a fast Ethernet connection to your office. The delivery of multiple loops offers a distinct level of redundancy, allowing continuity of services in the event any line failures occur.

EOC is currently one of the most practical options available to connect businesses to a fast, reliable network.

Datagram’s Ethernet over Copper (EOC) product is designed to deliver a premium solution, leveraging high-speed connectivity along our next generation backbone. Our offering is affordable, maintains a high quality of service, and is delivered in 4 weeks or less. No construction or reengineering is needed.

Speeds start at 3Mbps, and then go to 5Mbps, 10Mbps, 15Mbps, 20Mbps, 30Mbps and 45Mbps. The amount of bandwidth available is based on distance; however most of the NYC metro area is likely to be serviced. Our loop qualification system allows us to advise the maximum bandwidth to be delivered in advance. EoC provides an Ethernet handoff directly into your Firewall or network WAN/LAN switch or router.

Datagram utilizes Transbeam to provide EOC Local Loops to our customers. Although Transbeam is the Local Loops provider, Datagram is your ISP, which means that you do not have to worry about billing or other support from an automated response system. Datagram proactively monitors all circuits, and provides live support every day of the year.
