Datagram was thrilled to be able to offer its optimized Internet Access and datacenter services to the TED Conference for their TEDGlobal event held in Oxford, UK, from July 12-16. http://conferences.ted.com/TEDGlobal2010/program/
The conference is a fast-paced, highly curated four-day stage program featuring TED’s famous 18-minute talks, plus music, comedy, tech demos, short talks, video interludes and other surprises.
From the UK conference location, the TED media team needed to capture video of all the speakers and ship large, raw video files back to New York City, where a local staff member picked up the data twice a day on a drive, ensuring that the footage could be edited at their NYC office and posted online immediately.
“Without a high-quality, high-speed network connection in New York City, we would have had to physically ship drives overseas every night,” stated Michael Glass, Production Manager at TED. “Datagram gave us the flexibility we needed, while still providing a robust and reliable solution.”
Shipping raw video data over the internet saved TED the time and inconvenience of having to ship drives from Oxford to New York. During TEDGlobal, TED sent 3.5 terabytes of data in 5 days — allowing the popular video site to get edited videos online in hours rather than days.
